Studies have shown that 1 in 2 smokers over the age of 35 will die of a smoking related illness. That’s a 50% chance that if you are a smoker, you will die because of it.
Dr. Murray Laugesen, who is based out of New Zealand, has done numerous studies on e-cigarettes and vaping since it became popular in 2007.
Laugesen has gone on the record many times stating the potential health benefits and reduced risks e-cigs have over traditional tobacco cigarettes.
An influential study conducted in 2010 titled Cancer Risk in Humans Reduced by E-Cigarettes scientifically concluded that e-cigarettes reduce the risk of cancer in humans.
The study shows that nicotine is not what causes cancer. Nicotine is not a carcinogen. As I stated in my article “What Exactly Is In E-Liquid – What You Need To Know”, there are over 4000 chemicals in cigarettes, many of these have been proven to be carcinogenic as well as increasing rates of heart disease (smokers have a 300% higher chance of heart disease.). Cigarettes are a cancer causing nicotine delivery device.
As I stated in my article “What Exactly Is In E-Liquid – What You Need To Know” the American Lung Association states that over 7,000 chemicals and over 70 known carcinogens are in mainstream smoke, secondhand smoke, or both.
Nicotine itself has never been shown to cause cancer.
Smoking also increases rates of heart disease. Smokers that smoked a pack a day showed a 300% higher chance of heart disease. This was not attributed to nicotine.
In Dr. Laugesen’s 2010 study, he states:
“NICOTINE INHALED, OR BY ANY ROUTE, IS NOT RECOGNIZED BY THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AS A KNOWN CAUSE OF CANCER IN HUMANS OR ANIMALS. HUNDREDS OF OTHER CHEMICALS ARE RECOGNIZED, AND SCORES OF THEM ARE IN CIGARETTE SMOKE.”
In an excerpt from a study titled “Long Term Effects on Inhaled Nicotine” conducted in 1996 by The Department of Medicine, University Hospital in Tronheim, Norway, Doctors and researchers found that:
“Tobacco smoking has been reported to be associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer, particularly of the lungs. In spite of extensive research on the health effects of tobacco smoking, the substances in tobacco smoke exerting these negative health effects are not completely known.
Nicotine is the substance giving the subjective pleasure of smoking as well as inducing addiction.
For the first time we report the effect on the rat of long-term (two years) inhalation of nicotine. The rats breathed in a chamber with nicotine at a concentration giving twice the plasma concentration found in heavy smokers.
Nicotine was given for 20 hours a day, five days a week during a two-year period. We could not find any increase in mortality, in atherosclerosis or frequency of tumors in these rats compared with controls.
Particularly, there was no microscopic or macroscopic lung tumors nor any increase in pulmonary neuroendocrine cells.
In conclusion, our study does not indicate any harmful effect of nicotine when given in its pure form by inhalation.”
Nicotine is ignorantly lumped in with the negative effects of tobacco, tar, and 70 cancer causing carcinogens’ found in cigarettes.
When you take the nicotine out of the cigarette it is not the cancer causing poison many politicians’ and anti-tobacco activists would like you to believe.
